Abstract
A clinical observation was made on 61 cases of renal stone, admitted to the Department of Urology, National Medical Center from January 1971 to June 1976. In this 5 and 1/2-year period there were 884 inpatients which included 227 patients of urinary stone. Renal stone occupied 26.9% of urolithiasis. Clinical, laboratory and radiographic findings are described. Pyelolithotomy was performed in 26 patients, nephrolithotomy in 16 and nephrectomy in 17. The major reasons of nephrectomy were severely damaged kidney (11 cases) and bleeding during operation (3 cases). Prolonged urine leakage developed in 2 cases of pyelolithotomy and ceased 19 days after operation. Intractable bleeding occurred in 1 case after nephrolithotomy which required subsequent nephrectomy on postoperative 23rd day. One case of pyelolithotomy was expired of sepsis due to contaminated blood transfusion.
